Black is the color of knowledge. It is color of the robe that you put on at your graduation. Black is all about the life of Michele (Rani), a blind and deaf girl. It is about how life changes for her after she meets her teacher Devraj (Amitabh).
“You daughter is blind and deaf, not mentally retarded”, Devraj explains to the girl’s mother.
The rest of the movie is about how the relationship between teacher and pupil develops.
Although set against the backdrop of a physically challenged person’s life. SLB’s message is more about education. Education is what brings you into the light. Education is what is the difference between an animal and a human.
Black is a movie on various levels. It is a movie about relationships, love, education, and understanding. But most of all it is about knowledge.
Through out the movie you are reminded about the importance of knowledge, culminating with the loss of knowlegde of Devraj when he is hit by Alzheimer’s.
There has been no movie in the annals of Indian cinema like this.
