Our New Year was spent in Goa this year. Just to make it more interesting we decided to drive to Goa instead of taking the train.
Total distance: 750 km (roughly) Car: Honda City # of passengers: 5 adults 3 kids Time taken: 18 hours (roughly)
Route to: Hyderabad – Mahbubnagar – Raichur – Belgaum – Ponda – Panjim Route from: Panjim – Sawantwadi – Belgaum – Raichur – Mahbubnagar – Hyderabad
Do not take the Belgaum – Ponda road. The roads are almost non-existent.
At Goa: We stayed in an apartment at Nerul which is about 5 min drive from Panjim. It is very close to the Calangute beach too (5 min drive).
Candolim which is close to where we were staying is a touristy place which means everythign is expensive. It is almost impossible to get the famous Goan fish curry and rice meal there. All the hotels almost exclusively cater to the European crowd and are prohibitively expensive. But Panjim is close by and so its not too much of a hassle.
Calangute beach is beautiful. The water is nice and cool. The sand soothing. It has a plethora of water sports to indugle in. The restaurants on the beach front are good and not too expensive. We ate at the Cheers Shack on both days and enjoyed the food there.
All in all a wonderful holiday.
