To Question or Not To Question

Mr. Modi hasn’t taken kindly to people asking for proof of the destruction of the JeM training camps and of the 250 – 300 deaths claimed by Mr. Amit Shah. He labels people who dare question the veracity of both these facts as insulting the armed forces and as anti-India.

As with almost everything else, there is a real world and then there is the Modi world.

In the real world, it is not enough for Einstein to understand that there is a Theory of Relativity, he has to put it out there and have it tested and proved or disproved by other theorists and scientists. In the real world, the USA can’t just claim to have put a man on the moon and brought him back, they also have to have clear pictures of the event and preferably rocks brought back from the surface of the Moon to prove their claim. In the real world, it is not enough that Bach tell the world that he has an amazing piece of music in his head, he needs to write down the score and let others hear and test it out.

In the Modi world, he can claim that Lord Ganesh is proof of India having done the first organ transplant and any one suggesting otherwise is anti-India. In the Modi world, holding a broom for a photo is as good as having swept the entire nation’s garbage. In the Modi world, an action doesn’t have any set aim, the aim can change and morph to his will as each previous aim is proven to be false.

The Indian people, by and large, have great respect for the brave women and men serving in her defense. But that respect does not mean their actions cannot be questioned. Irrespective of what Mr. Modi believes, this is still a democratic country. A minor civics lesson for this leader of the most populous democracy in the world – every arm of the government is answerable to the people. Any rights that the legislature, executive and judiciary have is given (loaned) to them by the people. In such a set up, it is the right of the people to ask questions and the duty of the three arms to answer those questions.

To not answer the questions of the people is anti-India and anti-democracy.
