In most societies the women and men who make up our armed forces are respected and, in some cases, revered. The community understands that these brave souls put their lives on the live every day so the rest of us can get on with our lives and grapple with our daily problems. Irrespective of where you stand on the debate about war and the need for armed forces, it is hard not to respect them.
The COVID pandemic has given the average Joan and Joe on the street an opportunity to take concrete action to protect the lives of the others around them. With the availability of the COVID vaccine, it is the patriotic duty of every citizen to get themselves vaccinated so that we can protect those around us.
Over the past year, we have witnessed the carnage wrought by this terrible pandemic. There is nothing more unpatriotic than prolonging the societal costs of this pandemic. As the government opens out the availability of the vaccine to more groups, it is our duty to make sure that we are there in the queue to get inoculated.
We have stood in so many queues – to get the latest Apple phone, tickets to concerts and games, to get the best Thanksgiving deals, and so many more. But no queue you have ever stood in was as important as getting in queue to get vaccinated.
This pandemic has extracted a heavy toll. It is time to repair that damage. Maybe we will not be able to repair all the damage, but every small bit counts.
